Job Description
METRO ATLANTA RAPID TRANSIT AUTHORITY IS SEEKING: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR REQUISITION NUMBER: #1108502G SALARY: $46,310 – $57,888 NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1 QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field is required. Five years of work experience in the collection/processing of crime scene materials, law enforcement and skilled photography of crime scenes are required. Extensive knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of crime scene investigations, as well as various methodologies for processing and preserving evidence are required. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Must be able to accurately present information and respond to questioning. High level organizational skills are required. Must be proficient in the use of personal computer and associated software. Must possess a valid Driver’s License. State of Georgia P.O.S.T. Identification Technician Certification or have formal training as a crime scene investigator is required. Directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in-lieu of educational requirement. BASIC FUNCTIONS: Under general supervision, performs advanced and expert level technical duties in evidence processing and investigation of crime scenes. Responds to crime scene calls, investigates and evaluates crime scenes and determines the scope of the scene including surveying the area and formulating a plan for processing. Responsible for making sure the crime scene is secure to preserve the evidence in its current form. Prioritizes critical crime scene tasks based on each case and applies scientific knowledge to determine the forensic processes applicable to each scene. Creates a visual record of the crime scene by preparing crime scene sketches and drawings to establish a permanent record of items and conditions, distance and size relationships. Takes photographs and/or video of items in the crime scene and prepares investigative reports. Testifies in court about what was found at the crime scene and the investigative methods used. Coordinates activities with MARTA Police Staff and judicial systems in handling evidence processing chain of custody and related crime scene investigations activities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An official investigation into the applicant's background will be conducted including a criminal history records check. A physical examination, including drug/alcohol screen, will be required. An Awareness Statement issued by the GCIC must be signed concerning the dissemination of criminal history information.
