Investigator – Forensic Support Team

Salary: up to $96,000.00 annually
Those appointed to this position may not have been a member of a police service in BC at any time during the 5-year period immediately preceding the appointment.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is an independent civilian led agency with jurisdiction to investigate serious incidents involving police, including municipal police departments and the RCMP. The Police Act creates the IIO and defines its powers. The IIO reports to the Attorney General, however investigations and decisions are operationally independent of the government.

The role of the Investigator (Forensic Support Team) is to conduct investigations of incidents where it appears a person may have died or suffered serious harm as a result of actions of a police officer and any other prescribed offenses within the mandate of the IIO.

Qualifications for this role include: Degree or technical certification in a field related to law, investigation and enforcement, science, forensics, criminology or equivalent through significant field experience and attendance at developmental courses, seminars and technical certification; successful completion of a recognized Forensic Identification Course, or, such as the Canadian Police College or equivalent technical certification, e.g. scene management or investigatory scene management qualification with significant experience of managing scenes of critical incidents or serious crime investigations; and experience and the ability to demonstrate use of current forensic identification theories, principles and practices supported by recent experience of crime scene management and/or application of forensic examination techniques in an investigative context.
